L.A. by way of New Jersey hip hop/punk mutants, Ho99o9 have announced their ‘Horrors of 1999’ EP to be released June 8th via FAMILY. The band, described by The New York Times as being “slow subwoofer-abusing hip-hop, death metal, thrash, wriggly synthesizer tones, punk, post-punk, some splotches of pink noise…”, BEAT as “a moshpit at halloween, hip hip gone real horror show” and Rolling Stone as “The Geto Boys clashing with the Big Boys in a hardcore/horrorcore chainsaw fight” convert most brave souls who see them live and bring that same energy to their second EP.
Check out the Grindhouse styled video for ‘P.O.W. (Prisoners of War)’ / ‘No Regrets,’ a combined video for the two tracks showing why Ho99o9 is one of the most interesting bands around. ‘P.O.W. (Prisoners of War)’ premiered on Daniel P. Carter’s BBC Radio 1 Rock Show last weekend. Previous single ‘Casey Jones’ has also been getting attention at Radio 1, being spun both by Carter and on Huw Stephens’ and Zane Lowe’s shows.
Already claiming The Guardian New Band of The Week and NME Buzz Act of The Week slots before even setting foot in the UK, Ho99o9’s first shows on these shores next week are set to cause a stir and become the stuff of legend. They’ll be headlining Electrowerkz in London and playing at The Great Escape plus they’ve just been announced on the line-up for Reading and Leeds festivals this summer.
