To celebrate this, we caught up with vocalist Christian Neale for a 5 minute chat…
Hey Christian! For an outsider, can you put a label on your sound?
Its always hard describing your own music but we’ve always said we combine catchy melodies, ambience and aggression. Past reviews have compared us to bands like Billy Talent, Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta.
The new single is ace, and it’s had some great exposure! What can we expect from the new EP?
‘The Great Depression: Act I’ has definitely got and intended vibe. Its the first of a two part EP release so we are trying to tell a story. The songs lyrically don’t necessarily tell a direct story but its that feeling you get from a melody that we want to explore. As well as Clone City there are a few other catchy rock songs but there are some softer more intimate tracks to help build on that vibe. We are really excited to release it in July.
And touring plans are afoot I assume…?
We are heading out on tour with a great band in August. We cant give anything away right now but we will be announcing it in a few weeks time.
If you could have an ideal show, play anywhere with anyone, who would it be and where?
That’s a tough one… personally i’d love to play with the Deftones. But as band I know we always joke about touring with the Foo Fighters. That would would be the dream completed.
Where do you see Calling Apollo in 5 years time?
Hopefully still writing and playing. We would all love this to be our full time job but we understand how hard it is for rock bands these days. But if we keep working hard, then who knows.
