Sheer Music are delighted to announce their first show in Chippenham in over 5 years, with Sad Song Co. aka Nigel Powell, drummer for Oxford indie boys The Unbelievable Truth in the 90’s, noise-niks Dive Dive in the 00’s and latterly known as the sticks-man in Frank Turner‘s band, The Sleeping Souls.
This rare solo outing, is part of a UK tour to support new album ‘In Amber‘ released on 26th August. The album was recorded in 5 days during 2015 with Graeme Stewart (Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood) and George Shilling (Stornoway, My Bloody Valentine). The album is a loose concept album based around stories of people in and around an old people’s home, and is accompanied by prose that shapes and enriches the songs. It is Nigel’s most powerful piece of work since Unbelievable Truth’s debut Almost Here in 1998 (which he also co-wrote and produced), with echoes of Peter Gabriel, Elbow and Alt-J.
The single, ‘Legacy Of Love‘, has already received airplay on BBC 6 Music (DJ Chris Hawkins has promised more support around the album release), BBC Introducing & regional radio.
Support on the night comes from Xtra Mile Recording’s man in the West, Non Canon and Devizes based Mike Barham, both providing the subversive, alternative-to-the-alternative. Or just coming along to play a few damn good songs!
